It was a highly anticipated show for many.. especially for those who had watched their drama series. For me.. I've watch half of the Triumph In The Skies 冲上云霄 Part 2. I would say its very interesting as we seldom get to see how things run on the plane and seldom there would be movie evolves around the life of a pilot and plane. In addition, they travelled to many places just for the drama itself. It was a very good effort put in by the director/s, crews and artistes to make this drama possible. Hence this is why it already has a strong fan-base for the show even before the movie was screened.
Young pilot Branson (Louis KOO) recently takes over Skylette, his father’s aviation empire, only to realize his old flames Cassie (Charmaine SHEH) is a flight attendant there. Several years ago, he was forced to break up with her and move to New York to take care of his father's business. To this day, the two continue to harbor feelings for each other but decide to keep them bottled up.

But was donned in the pilot's uniform for a commercial for the Airline company, Skylette.
In an effort to rebrand the airline, Branson invites rock idol TM to star in an upcoming commercial and appoints Sam (Francis NG) as her flying consultant. Incongruent in both tastes and experience, this odd couple gets off on the wrong foot. As the shoot progresses, however, they slowly discover each other's merits, developing a strong mutual attraction.

Jayden (Julien CHEUNG) has left Skylette Airline to become a pilot for private jets. He meets the young and vivacious Kika (KUO Tsai Chieh) during a flight and assumes her to be wayward and shallow. But they turn out to have a lot in common and start falling madly in love. At the height of their romance, Jayden realizes almost too late the secret behind her recalcitrance…

Sitting at the 2nd level in the theatre.. it was my first time watching a movie in this manner.. lookin' from top down.. It was not that bad afterall. becos we are not extremely high up like others. :P I still enjoyed the show without feeling that there's any difference sitting at the corner of 2nd level.

There were too much romance in the movie.
This movie I would give an 8.5 for the many places they went to shoot this movie... but because of the loads of romantic scenes in the movie I give it an 8 instead. I believe audience would want to see more of the scenarios happening on the plane and cockpit rather than just romance itself. I thought about it and came to a prediction that maybe its hard to incorporate both real life scenarios on the plane and romance in a 2 hr plus show. Hence, they focus more on romance. But for the romance, they did it very good and I'm immersed into the love scenes while watching it and recollecting my past relationship. The romance was really well done, thumbs up!
TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES: A GREAT LEGACY Triumph in the Skies is Hong Kong's first television drama on aviation. The first series premiered in October 2003 as one of the year's biggest productions. The all-star ensemble cast includes Francis Ng, who returned to the station after many years, Flora Chan, Joe Ma, Myolie Wu, Shek Sau and more. The pilot trainees are played by rising TVB stars including Ron Ng, Kenneth Ma, Sammul Chan, Michelle Ye and Bosco Wong. The series was shot in beautiful locations like Rome, Florence, Sapporo and flight school Flight Training Adelaide. The series was very popular, recording an average rating of 2.12 million viewership and 2.37 million viewership at its final episodes. Even the series' 2008 late-night and the 2010 afternoon re-runs in 2008 and 2010 were watched by many.
THE SEQUEL: AN EVEN BIGGER SUCCESS
Ten years later, the sequel to Triumph in the Skies began shooting in 2012 and was aired in July 2013. There were big changes to the cast: while people like Francis Ng, Ron Ng and Joe Ma reprised their roles, new characters such as Jayden (Julien Cheung), Holiday (Fala Chen), Heather (Elena Kong) were introduced, alongside young actors like Him Law and Adrian Chau. Instead of playing Zoe from the first series, Myolie Wu plays Jayden's sister Summer. The crew shot in England, France, Hainan, Gaoxiong and Kenting. The series, following its last' popularity, recorded an average rating of 1.99 million viewership, with the final episodes hitting 2.63 million viewership, the highest among recent TVB drams. The series also won many awards at the TVB Anniversary Awards: Elena Kong took home Best Supporting Actress, Julien Cheung My Favorite Male Television Character, and the series Best Drama of the Year.
Hot Topics: theme song, hairstyle and quotes
The series was not only immensely popular, but it also set off many pop culture phenomena. The theme song of the first series Cantabile Years became a big hit and the line "the weather is not as expected" became a well-used phrase on online forums. Julien Cheung's cover of the song appeared in the sequel, and the song is also used in the opening of the movie. Sam's hairstyle in the first series was also widely discussed, though it wasn't accepted by the public. Ironically, ten years later, the hairstyle became trendy, seen on pop stars Pakho Chau and Jason Chan. Jayden Cheung proved so popular in the second series he became a central character. His clever, catchy dialogues in every episode will inevitably become a hot topic.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Wilson Yip's film career began in 1985, and he has since participated in the production of over 30 movies. In 1995, he released his directorial debut 01:00 AM. In just a year, his second movie Mongkok Story was listed as one of the Films of Merit and Yip won Best Screenplay at the 3rd Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards. He gained wider recognition following his 1999 film Bullets Over Summer, starring Fransic Ng, Louis Koo and Helena Law Lan, who was honored as Best Actress at the 19th Hong Kong Film Awards. Yip has also carved a niche for himself in making action films--SPL: Sha Po Lang (2005), Dragon Tiger Gate (2006), Flash Point (2007) and Ip Man 1 & 2 (2008 & 2009) not only scored well at the box office, they also established Yip's status as an action film director.
Matt Chow entered the industry following a recommendation from director Joe Ma, and he became a television screenwriter in 1989. In 1996, he worked on the screenplay of Shanghai Grand, and had the opportunity to direct L-O-V-E..... Love the next year. While he mostly works as a screenwriter and a radio host, he also directed films like Let's Sing Along (2001) and The Attractive One (2004). Earlier this year, Chow directed Golden Chicken 3, starring and produced by Sandra Ng. The local film won at the box office, making over $40 million, and became the year’s most popular Hong Kong movie.
DIRECTORS’ WORDS
Adapting a beloved television drama with 10 years of history, the biggest headache must be how to move the story forward while bringing something new to the audience. Directors Wilson Yip and Matt Chow have jointly taken up the challenging task. With a long history of collaboration, the two share a great chemistry. The perfect candidates to give the Triumph in the Skies series a romantic boost, they aim to make the movie the year’s biggest romance hit.
Q: The two series of Triumph in the Skies have about 80 episodes in total. How different would the movie be?
Chow: Even when it comes to baking, everyone does it differently. If a cake is cut by different people, it will look different. For the movie Triumph in the Skies, it contains a lot of the existing characters from the television drama, but we would give them new packaging. While you’ll see the difference, you will also be able to spot familiar elements.
Q: You’ve introduced several new characters. Is that decision meant to enhance the romance of the characters?
Chow: This is a love story within the aviation industry, involving pilots, flight attendants and even airline bosses. All three romances are set within the industry. There’s the love story between airline company boss Louis Koo and former lover and flight attendant Charmaine Sheh, and then the vibrant romance between Julien Cheung’s Jayden and Amber Kuo, which even Jayden can’t fully control. The audience will also experience another side of Sam, as he goes through a more grown-up and elegant romance with rock star TM. What I am sure of is that Triumph of the Skies is filled with romance and passion.
Q: Will you have a new interpretation of the existing characters? For example, will Sam be just as serious and stubborn as he is in the television series?
Chow: With some 80 episodes, Sam is firmly established in the minds of the viewers. People already assume what he is like: straightforward, tedious and casuistic. But he is no expert in love. This serious pilot will get to know rock star TM while shooting a commercial. One is serious and career-oriented while the other relies on her sensibilities to make music: they are diametrically opposite to each other. But they soon start sharing many funny and light-hearted moments together. Sam is still the same Sam, but when he’s interacting with someone different, his story and his psychology change.
Yip: As for Jayden, we wrote that he left Skylette to fly private jets. He has always been a rebel and a free spirit, with plenty of women surrounding him. This is not changed in the movie: he is still attractive and sought after by many ladies. However, we arranged Amber Kuo’s character beside him. He’s met so many women, but how many deserves a place in his heart? How many would he cry for? The idea that he would cry for a woman is indicative of his willingness to really commit himself to a woman.
Q: What about Louis Koo and Charmaine Sheh? What does it add to the movie?
Chow: Louis Koo plays the airline company’s boss. He is the CEO of a big business group and just purchased Skylette. At work, he can easily handle businesses worth billions. That’s not the case in love. He once gave up Charmaine Sheh for his family business. At the start of the movie, he encounters his old flames again. Will he choose to ignore her for his career, or will he realize it’s too much to miss out again the second time? We all face difficult choices in life. You may not be the CEO to a big company, but you would still have to go through the challenge of balancing work and love. These things are irrelevant to social classes. Through Koo and Sheh’s relationship, we want to say that sometimes you make bad choices in love, but if you’re willing to make amends—even after 10, 20 years—you can still make it right.
Q: The movie is shot in many different international locations. Any particularly memorable ones?
Chow: Brighton, England! We held a party for over 200,000 people there once, and it’s a beautiful seaside town, so we picked this place. We also filmed at an airplane base in England. Many enthusiasts park their airplanes and practice there, so there are a lot of experts. We hired two of them for a scene where Louis Koo does aerobatics. It was such a refreshing and exciting scene! Especially while we were shooting from the pilot’s point of view, that level of excitement is incomparable to shooting on the ground. It’s very hard to do those scenes in Hong Kong, so I think it’s a must-see scene.Yip: I remember shooting in the Shaw Studios. Sam is the consultant for the commercial and we needed a more advanced and spacious venue. A high-quality venue like the Shaw Studio is hard to come by. To make the commercial even grander, we needed a large and advanced television display, as well as airborne shooting techniques. Shaw Studios gave us all of that.
